According to TechFlow, on May 5, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed in a blog post to replace the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V to improve blockchain performance and simplify the architecture.

V God said that Ethereum is expected to achieve a simplicity similar to Bitcoin within five years. RISC-V, as an open source instruction set, allows applications to run directly on the execution layer, speeding up certain operations by 100 times while maintaining smart contract compatibility.

In addition, the RISC-V architecture will reduce the cost of creating new infrastructure, reduce protocol maintenance costs, reduce vulnerability risks, and minimize social attack surfaces. However, analyst Dominick John pointed out that the proposal may break backward compatibility and require developers to retrain.
