According to Odaily, FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett reported on X that with only a few days remaining until the presidential inauguration, the transition team is set to inform regulatory agencies about leadership preferences during the Senate confirmation process for Trump's nominees. At the SEC, the two Republican commissioners are Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda. Trump is expected to choose one of them to lead the agency until Paul Atkins is confirmed. At the CFTC, the current Republican commissioners are Summer Mersinger and Caroline Pham. Trump has not yet nominated a candidate for CFTC chair. Either Pham or Mersinger will assume the role on January 20, serving until Trump appoints a permanent chair who is confirmed by the Senate, or decides to make the acting chair permanent. During his first term, Trump appointed Republican commissioner Chris Giancarlo as acting chair in January 2017 and announced his intention to make him permanent in March. Giancarlo was officially confirmed by the Senate in August. Whoever Trump appoints as acting CFTC chair could potentially become the permanent chair. Trump may also consider appointing an outsider later this year.
