He is famous for creating popular manga and anime series in the 1970s, such as Cutie Honey, Devilman, and Mazinger Z. He is recognized as the creator of the super robot genre and for the significant influence he had on creators in the fields of animation, comics, and video games worldwide. He eventually became a character design professor at the Osaka University of Arts (2005), and years later, the Gou Nagai memorial hall was established in Wajima, Japan (2009).
