Rebecca Liao, co-founder and CEO of layer-1 blockchain Saga, believes that digital assets were initially a bipartisan issue but leaned towards the Republican Party in the most recent election cycle due to the previous administration's anti-cryptocurrency policies.
In an interview with Turner Wright of Cointelegraph at the ETHDenver Conference, Liao pointed out that the lack of cohesive policies from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is the main challenge facing the industry. The executive stated:
"The cryptocurrency community feels that the government is not really helping the cryptocurrency community with policies that could benefit the industry, so they decided to shift towards the Republican Party."
Liao continued: “The alliance between the Republican Party and cryptocurrency is a matter of opposing the current regime, so both oppose this order.”
The CEO mentioned that campaign contributions also play a crucial role in the GOP's shift towards pro-cryptocurrency policies, adding that the hard truth is that financial contributions often determine the level of attention elected lawmakers pay to a specific voting bloc.
