⚰️ Three crypto exchanges died this month. Not one of them died on the day it was killed.
BitMart's killer struck in December 2021. It took nearly five years to finish the job.
Nobody in this hashtag is saying that part. 👇
📅 JULY 1 — AscendEX
Never got its European licence. On-chain sleuths found its wallets holding about $13.5 MILLION — nearly all in its OWN token. ZachXBT warned publicly five days before the announcement.
Death by empty tank. 🪫
📅 JULY 23 — BitMEX
This one should hurt. BitMEX INVENTED the perpetual swap. Every perp you have ever opened, anywhere, descends from what they built in 2016.
Its daily volume when it announced it was closing? Around $400,000. 😶
Less than 0.01% of the market. The house that built the casino ended up under one basis point of it.
Death by irrelevance. 👻
📅 JULY 26 — BitMart
Nine years. Deposits and new orders switched off. Trading ends August 26. Dark on January 31, 2027.
BMX: −58% in a day, −70% on the year. 📉
Cause of death dated December 2021, when attackers drained roughly $196 MILLION from its hot wallets.
Death by a wound it never healed. 🩸
That's the pattern nobody's naming. 🎯
An exchange doesn't collapse the day it gets hacked. It survives the headline, refills the wallets, posts the apology, then bleeds quietly for years until the trust runs out before the money does.
BitMart's obituary was written in 2021. It just got published this week.
So when you read "your funds are safe" after the next incident — that means safe TODAY. It says nothing about 2030. ⏳
Three down in 26 days. The consolidation isn't coming. It's happening, to the names you recognise. 💀
The lesson isn't "panic." It's this: an exchange is a place you visit, not a place you live. 🔑
