Cryptocurrency phishing scams have cost nearly 100,000 victims more than $100 million this year.

A recent phishing attack cost a cryptocurrency investor 501 ETH, worth approximately $2 million, which was staked through the liquidity staking protocol Ether.Fi.
On-chain data shows that the theft occurred earlier today and involved two transactions. In one transaction, 426 ETH was lost, followed by another 75 ETH. At the time of the attack, the stolen assets were valued at approximately $16.6 million and $276,000 respectively.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino recently issued a warning to cryptocurrency users, reminding them to be wary of emails related to cryptocurrency airdrops that they have received in the past 24 hours.
Potential Phishing Attacks
In a post on social media platform X, Ardoino noted that they had obtained two independent documents that revealed a possible security breach and said the breach was related to a well-known email provider that often provided services to cryptocurrency companies.

He further stated that they would not disclose the specific name of the email service provider until the investigation was thoroughly completed. But he also advised users to be vigilant and avoid possible risks when receiving any emails mentioning cryptocurrency airdrops.

Inferno Drainer followed in the footsteps of Monkey Drainer and fell into obscurity, leaving a trail of fraud and calls for better security measures.
Inferno Drainer, a crypto wallet suite tool known for its widespread involvement in cryptocurrency scams, announced on November 27 that it would be shutting down its operations.
The toolkit implemented phishing schemes that resulted in the theft of more than $80 million worth of cryptocurrency and thousands of victims.
Inferno Drainer fell into disrepute after Monkey Drainer shut down earlier this year. Monkey Drainer stole approximately $13 million. The kit was taken offline in March via a similar announcement on Telegram.
