🇪🇺 ECB to Expand Initiative for Settlements in Digital Assets

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced the expansion of its initiative for settlements in digital assets using distributed ledger technology (DLT). The project aims to integrate digital assets into the traditional financial system with settlements through central bank accounts.

The program will develop in two phases. The first step will be to create a platform that will allow settlements in digital assets through the existing TARGET Services payment system. In the future, the ECB will explore the possibility of full integration of DLT into its infrastructure, including international settlements and currency exchange.

According to ECB board member Piero Cipollone, the regulator "promotes innovation without compromising safety and stability." He noted that the initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the European financial market and aligns with plans to create a unified digital capital market.
