According to a report by The WallStreet Journal report, Montenegro's top justice official intends to extradite disgraced crypto tycoon Do Kwon to the U.S., instead of his home country South Korea, to face criminal charges. Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, has been imprisoned in Montenegro since March and is at the center of an international dispute as both the U.S. and South Korea seek his extradition.
Prosecutors in both countries are looking to put Kwon on trial over fraud and securities-law violations connected to the $40 billion crash of TerraUSD and Luna cryptocurrencies in May 2022. A court in Montenegro approved his extradition last month but left the final decision to Justice Minister Andrej Milovic as to whether export him to the U.S. or South Korea.
Milovic has not disclosed his decision and it is likely he will wait until the country’s courts have ruled on Kwon's latest appeal against the court ruling.
