The altcoin market is facing a severe correction after Bitcoin dropped sharply below the $100,000 mark, causing widespread panic in the digital asset sector. The total market cap for altcoins has fallen to about $1.4 trillion, wiping out nearly $400 billion from its late-October peak of $1.8 trillion. This decline shows weakening momentum, less liquidity, and a shift toward defensive strategies among traders.
Market data indicates that altcoins are drastically underperforming. CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index is currently at 32 out of 100, indicating that Bitcoin dominates the market and moving the situation away from any "altcoin season." Furthermore, 72 of the top 100 cryptocurrencies are trading 50% or more below their all-time highs, underscoring the severity of the downturn.
This correction goes well beyond Bitcoin's own 23% drop from its October highs. Major altcoins have experienced much larger losses in the past week. Ethereum has decreased over 6% to around $3,200, while other significant assets like XRP, BNB, SOL, ADA, LINK, DOGE, and HYPE have each fallen by 5% to more than 9%. These declines show a rapid loss of confidence and reveal a market mood driven by fear rather than accumulation.
Technical indicators reveal further evidence of market stress. The percentage of altcoins trading above their 200-day moving average, an important measure of long-term health, has dropped to levels typically seen in deep bear markets. Historical patterns indicate that when this indicator weakens, altcoins often go through extended periods of low performance before they start to recover.
The market structure is still weakening. Intraday charts show consistent downward pressure, with no clear signs of stabilization. Traders are increasingly moving away from less liquid altcoins and shifting into Bitcoin or stablecoins, aiming to reduce volatility risks and find safety in uncertain times.
Currently, multiple indicators suggest ongoing downside risk: declining market cap, broken support levels, and extremely weak momentum among leading assets. A meaningful recovery seems unlikely until Bitcoin establishes a clear bottom and broader technical conditions improve.
For now, the altcoin landscape is dominated by negative sentiment, cautious strategies, and uncertainty about whether this is capitulation or the beginning of a deeper crypto downturn.

NORFOLK, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Telcoin today announced its final charter approval from the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance to launch Telcoin Digital Asset Bank, the first Digital Asset Depository Institution in the United States.
The charter positions Telcoin to become the first true blockchain bank, directly connecting U.S. bank accounts to regulated
“Digital Cash” stablecoins. Its flagship product, eUSD, will be the first bank-issued, on-chain U.S. dollar stablecoin, offering consumers and businesses a secure, compliant way to use Digital Cash for payments, remittances, and savings.
Notably, it is also the first bank charter to explicitly authorize connecting U.S. consumers to DeFi.
Telcoin’s eUSD and other global Digital Cash stablecoins represent an evolution of money that is programmable and interoperable, designed to move seamlessly across blockchain and traditional financial rails.
