Eigen Labs Restructures Team to Prioritize EigenCloud Development
Eigen Labs, the primary developer behind Ethereum restaking protocol EigenLayer, has reduced its staff by approximately 25% to concentrate resources on its newly launched EigenCloud platform.
According to a report by Blockworks, the company let go of 29 employees, confirming the layoffs to The Block.
In a public statement on X, Eigen Labs CEO Sreeram Kannan explained the decision, stating, “Today, we announced an internal restructuring to streamline operations and align our efforts toward advancing EigenCloud. While this shift required parting ways with talented team members who have made invaluable contributions, it ensures we remain focused on our core mission.”
The workforce reduction follows a recent $70 million investment from a16z crypto, which acquired additional EIGEN tokens to support EigenCloud’s rollout.
Launched last month, EigenCloud combines several critical services—such as EigenDA for data availability, EigenVerify for resolving disputes, and EigenCompute for execution—into a single, programmable ecosystem. The platform is designed to enable developers to build decentralized applications with blockchain-backed security while maintaining the efficiency of traditional cloud systems.
“Though these decisions are challenging, they position us to achieve a groundbreaking objective: creating the world’s first fully verifiable cloud infrastructure,” Kannan added.
