Just hours before Donald Trump's exclusive gala for top $TRUMP memecoin holders, Rep. Maxine Waters dropped a political bombshell: a new bill aimed at stopping “crypto corruption” in Washington.
⬛️ What’s in the Waters Bill?
The “Stop Trading, Retention, and Unfair Market Payoffs in Crypto Act of 2025” would:
✔ Ban U.S. presidents, vice presidents, lawmakers, and their families from owning enough crypto to influence its governance
✔ Prohibit them from trading, promoting, or profiting off digital assets while in office
✔ Tackle insider information abuse in the crypto space
⬛️ Why Now?
The timing is no coincidence. The bill comes just before Trump’s memecoin gala, hosted at his private golf club. Attendees had to hold large amounts of $TRUMP — with gala tickets ranging from $55,000 to $37.7 million.
Notably, Justin Sun confirmed he’ll be there, calling himself Trump’s “TOP fan.”
⬛️ A Direct Shot at Trump
Waters called Trump’s memecoin “a scam” and a “backdoor for foreign influence,” suggesting adversaries like Russia or China could use it to gain political favors.
Meanwhile, Trump’s crypto ventures — including coins from both him and Melania, plus a new Trump-backed stablecoin via World Liberty Financial — are raising alarm bells across Capitol Hill.
⏳ What’s Next?
With bipartisan bills on stablecoins and market structure already in the works, this move escalates the tension between crypto-friendly populism and regulatory crackdowns.
Get ready — the battle over crypto in politics is just heating up.
