Theo Bộ Công an, 68% kênh, nhóm trên Telegram tại Việt Nam chứa nội dung độc hại, trong đó có hàng chục nghìn thành viên tham gia phát tán tài liệu chống đối. Ngoài ra, nhiều vụ lừa đảo qua Telegram đã xảy ra, gây thiệt hại hơn 1.000 tỷ đồng, với hơn 13.000 nạn nhân và dữ liệu cá nhân của 23 triệu người dân bị rao bán.
Telegram không tuân thủ quy định tại Nghị định 147/2024 về quản lý Internet và không hợp tác với cơ quan chức năng Việt Nam, dù đã nhiều lần được yêu cầu. Theo Cục Viễn thông, kể từ 1/1, các doanh nghiệp cung cấp dịch vụ Internet xuyên biên giới phải thông báo hoạt động, nhưng Telegram không thực hiện.
