A large wildfire rapidly approached Reno, Nevada, near the California border on the 23rd, forcing about 42,000 residents to evacuate and placing another 45,000 in an evacuation warning zone. According to Sina Finance, local fire officials said the blaze had injured six people, including three emergency responders, and had burned about 53 square kilometers in roughly 24 hours while remaining out of control.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for Washoe County, where Reno is located, and ordered the Nevada National Guard to be mobilized. According to Sina Finance, about 10,000 customers were without power, several major highways were closed, Reno-Stead Airport was shut and general aviation traffic was suspended, while Reno-Tahoe International Airport remained open.
