An FBI supervisor was arrested after using his high-level security access to steal around one million dollars in cryptocurrency from foreign accounts monitored by the government.
Between late 2024 and early 2025, the agent accessed secret databases to get private keys and passphrases. He then moved the funds into his personal crypto wallets.
He eventually broke down and confessed to a coworker, saying the guilt was eating him up inside. He was fired and arrested shortly after.
Investigators found that he was secretly planning to use the stolen money to retire early in Europe with his family.
