BREAKING: 🇷🇺🇺🇦 Ukrainian monitoring channels warn that Russia may soon launch the “Oreshnik” missile from the Kapustin Yar test site, potentially targeting Ukraine in the coming days.
The Oreshnik (meaning "Hazel Tree") has become a central tool in Russia's "nuclear saber-rattling" strategy this month. After its second-ever operational use on January 9, Ukrainian intelligence suggests another launch could be imminent.
• The Lviv Strike (Jan 9): Russia launched an Oreshnik missile from Kapustin Yar, which traveled approximately 1,622 km in roughly 13 minutes, reaching speeds of Mach 10 (13,000 km/h) before striking Lviv.
• The Targets: While the January 9 strike reportedly targeted critical infrastructure near the Polish border, rumors suggest the next launch could target Kyiv or underground gas storage facilities in Stryi.
• Intimidation Factor: Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe these strikes are specifically designed to deter the "Coalition of the Willing"—a group of Western nations currently discussing the deployment of European peacekeepers to Ukraine.
