Google (GOOG.O) last week disclosed that it had agreed to cover up to $44 billion in third-party data center lease payments if tenants default. According to Jin10, the figure was up from $6.5 billion at the end of September and reflected Google’s efforts to provide Anthropic and others with an alternative to Nvidia AI chips. The report said Alphabet had provided lease guarantees for about 2.4 gigawatts of capacity across roughly 10 projects, none of which have been completed yet.
