One sentence in the TBV documentation kept bothering me today.

Not because I disagreed with it.

Because it quietly changes where trust lives.

When people hear "trustless Bitcoin vault," they usually imagine Bitcoin leaving the trust equation entirely.

I don't think that's what actually happens.

Bitcoin still doesn't know what's happening on Ethereum.

It can't inspect an Ethereum block.

It can't verify an EVM transaction.

Instead, Bitcoin is asked a much narrower question:

"Has enough cryptographic evidence been presented to justify releasing these coins?"

That's a very different security model.

The protocol isn't eliminating trust.

It's reducing the amount of information Bitcoin has to trust.

I like that design philosophy.

But it also raises another question.

Every reduction in trust comes with an increase somewhere else.

More proof systems.

More timing assumptions.

More challenge logic.

More protocol complexity.

Maybe that's the unavoidable trade-off.

Not trust versus trustlessness.

Simple trust versus verifiable complexity.

As Babylon evolves, I think that's where the real discussion should be.

Not whether trust disappears.

But whether the remaining assumptions become small enough that we can finally reason about them.
