TRUMP JUST PROMISED TO ELIMINATE YOUR INCOME TAX The Math Says He Cannot. The Supreme Court May Say He Will Not. Yesterday, the President declared Americans will “soon” pay zero income tax because tariff revenue is “so enormous.” Here is the truth no one is telling you: Individual income tax collected in 2025: $2.66 trillion. Tariff revenue collected in 2025: $195 billion. That is not a gap. That is a chasm. Tariffs would need to multiply 14x overnight to replace what income taxes generate. The Tax Foundation projects tariffs will never exceed $260 billion annually through 2034. NYU’s top tax professor calls this “complete fantasy.” The Taxpayers for Common Sense president states it is “not remotely possible.” But here is what makes this truly extraordinary: The Supreme Court is deciding RIGHT NOW whether these tariffs are even legal. On August 30, a federal appeals court ruled 7 to 4 that Trump exceeded his constitutional authority. Justices appeared deeply skeptical during November 5 oral arguments. If SCOTUS rules against the administration, every dollar collected becomes a refund liability. Costco, Revlon, Kawasaki, and 40 plus corporations are already suing to protect their claims. The President is promising to eliminate your taxes using revenue that may be ruled unconstitutional within weeks. Meanwhile, tariffs function as a flat consumption tax. Working families pay a larger share of their income than the wealthy. This is not tax relief. This is tax transfer. The 19th century funded government on tariffs. That government cost 3% of GDP. Today’s costs 24%. You are watching the most consequential economic promise of the decade built on arithmetic that does not work, authority that may not exist, and a Supreme Court decision that could unwind everything.
