🤔Will quantum computers make $BTC and $ETH “unsafe” in the future? A report from @bigbrainvc shows that quantum computers are developing very rapidly, and this is no longer just science fiction in a lab. This technology operates based on qubits – units that can exist in multiple states at the same time – allowing it to process complex problems millions of times faster than traditional computers. This inadvertently creates significant risks for blockchain, which relies entirely on the power of cryptography. The foundational algorithms of crypto, such as ECDSA (used to create transaction signatures) or SHA-256 (used to mine Bitcoin), could all be weakened if quantum computers become powerful enough. Shor's algorithm has the ability to reverse-engineer from public key to private key, meaning wallets that have ever made transactions could be at risk of being stolen. Grover's algorithm could accelerate the process of “trying to find the nonce,” disrupting $BTC mining and forcing the network to continuously adjust its difficulty level. 👉However, the blockchain community is not standing still. New approaches such as lattice-based cryptography, hash-based signatures, or next-generation zero-knowledge proofs are considered strong enough to withstand quantum attacks. @Ethereum has also discussed emergency plans to protect user wallets if a major attack situation arises. Bitcoin could implement a soft fork to add quantum attack resistance features. In reality, quantum risks haven't happened yet, but their development speed forces major chains to prepare from now. In addition, Big Brain also emphasizes that quantum technology could break crypto – but it could also make crypto stronger if applied correctly.
