The AggLayer (Aggregation Layer) is the technical backbone of the entire Polygon 2.0 vision. It is a novel cross-chain settlement protocol designed to aggregate Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs from every connected chain—both Polygon-built chains and potentially external L1s and L2s—into a single, massive proof. Think of it this way: The AggLayer functions like a shared, secure nervous system for the entire ecosystem.$POL Shared Security and Finality: Every transaction on every chain in the network generates a ZK proof. These proofs are then recursively batched and processed by the AggLayer. This process ensures all chains inherit the robust security and finality of Ethereum's mainnet. $POL Unified State and Liquidity: By aggregating the proofs of state transitions, the AggLayer ensures that the state of all chains is synchronized and validated. Crucially, this allows atomic cross-chain transactions. A user on one chain can perform a transaction that instantaneously interacts with a smart contract on another chain, all within a single, seamless step, with near-instant finality. This eliminates the need for slow, vulnerable bridges and effectively unifies liquidity across the entire ecosystem. The Single Chain Experience: For the end-user, the complex, multi-chain infrastructure disappears. The entire Polygon 2.0 network will feel like a single chain. This is the key to mass adoption—an intuitive, frictionless experience where you don't have to worry about where your assets are locked or what bridge to use. The primary new utility of #Polygon lies in its role as the universal staking token for the entire Polygon 2.0 ecosystem. Securing All Chains: $POL holders who operate a validator can stake their tokens once and use them to secure multiple chains within the Polygon ecosystem—from the upgraded Polygon PoS chain to the zkEVM and every sovereign AppChain built with the CDK.
