NVIDIA INVESTS $20 BILLION IN ELON MUSK’S xAI TO FUND AI CHIPS 🔹 Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is expanding its funding round to $20 billion, with participation from Nvidia, Apollo Global Management, Valor Capital, and Diameter Capital. 🔹 The deal includes $7.5 billion in equity and $12.5 billion in debt, structured through a special purpose vehicle (SPV). This SPV will purchase Nvidia chips and lease them back to xAI for five years, supporting the Colossus 2 data center located in Memphis. 🔹 Nvidia is expected to contribute around $2 billion in equity as part of its broader strategy to accelerate AI adoption across industries. 🔹 This financial model allows Wall Street investors to earn profits from hardware assets (GPUs) rather than company equity, creating a new form of fundraising for AI infrastructure. 🔹 Imagine xAI as a restaurant: instead of investors buying shares of the restaurant, they purchase all the cooking equipment (like stoves and ovens) through another company. The restaurant then leases this equipment for five years, and the rental fees become investor income. The investors don’t own the restaurant — they own the tools it uses. In this analogy, xAI is the restaurant, and Nvidia’s GPUs are the cooking tools.
