Pakistan Takes a Big Step Toward a Cashless Future!

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the Digital Wallet System 2025, marking a historic leap toward a fully digital and cashless Pakistan.

To accelerate adoption, the government has approved a Rs. 3.5 billion subsidy for State Bank–regulated institutions, effective Sept 2024 – June 2025, promoting QR-based payments nationwide.

What It Means

Now everyone — from large corporations to small vendors — can send and receive money instantly via QR codes linked to bank accounts or mobile wallets.

Whether it’s groceries, fuel, or street food, payments are just one mobile scan away.

Why It Matters

Pakistan still holds 27% of its money supply in cash, one of the highest ratios globally.

This initiative aims to:

Reduce cash dependency

Enhance transparency

Digitally trace every rupee

Align Pakistan with global fintech innovation

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Vision

> “Every transaction traceable, every rupee accountable — this reform will redefine how Pakistan earns, spends, and saves.”

A high-level committee will ensure smooth rollout across both public and private sectors.

Key Benefits

Fast, contactless QR payments

Transparent, traceable transactions

Financial inclusion for all citizens

Growth boost for SMEs and startups

Safer, fraud-free payment systems

Improved tax collection and efficiency

Experts predict that by the end of 2025, more than 70% of domestic payments could shift to digital channels — a true game changer for Pakistan’s economy.
