I spoke to a founder tonight who recently sold his business and will walk away with $10+ million in cash post-tax.
He asked me if I had any advice for him.
Here is what I told him:
- Find a good private banker
- Create a rainy day fund as safety net
- Figure out an investment strategy
- Buy one thing he always wanted (watch, car, etc)
- Take one trip somewhere special
- Ask rich people what they would do
This is a big milestone for a young founder who worked hard to create a product that solved a real problem in the world.
It never hurts to enjoy the fruits of your labor before you get back to building the next company.
