Bitcoin staking is coming to Starknet, and the dedicated SNIP is now live on the Starknet community forum! This SNIP explains the rationale and mechanism behind BTC staking on Starknet, and we are looking for feedback from the community. The main takeaways: > BTC holders will be able to stake their BTC on Starknet > This will strengthen Starknet’s decentralization and security, by bringing BTC into Starknet’s economic security layer, and offering BTC a native onchain utility within the network > BTC is proposed to account for up to 25% of validator staking power, while STRK remains the core asset securing Starknet (at least 75% validator power) > Target launch: Q3 2025 We’re also introducing a beneficial alignment mechanism between BTC stakers and STRK staking. A new Starknet version, v0.13.6, is coming: > Testnet on June 30 (next week!) > Mainnet on July 8 This release is part of the roadmap to integrate S-Two, StarkWare’s next-gen STARK prover, into Starknet Mainnet. S-Two will reduce proving time from 24 min to under 3 min for 2B L2 gas blocks, while cutting proving costs by at least 2x. And this is just the MVP, further optimizations are already in the works. While S-Two won't be live yet, v0.13.6 introduces key changes to make Starknet compatible with it. This version will also: > Enable resource counting > Keep tx costs & UX unchanged Note: Cairo Native is temporarily disabled on Testnet (it's not activated on Mainnet anyway), and we plan to reintegrate it later in Q3.
