Metaplanet Acquires Additional 1,111 Bitcoins, Increasing Total Value Over $1.1 Billion
Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet Inc. has purchased an additional 1,111 Bitcoin (BTC), bringing its total holdings to over $1.12 billion. The firm's Chairman Simon Gerovich aims to acquire 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025, projecting a total of 210,000 BTC by 2027. This aggressive financial strategy has seen Metaplanet rise to become one of the top ten corporate holders of BTC worldwide. Metaplanet's growth strategy involves a combination of stock acquisition rights and zero-coupon bond issuances, primarily directed to EVO FUND.
Despite the firm's success, its stock was down 5.39% at the time of writing, perhaps due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Metaplanet's BTC acquisition spree signals a growing trend among institutions to consider Bitcoin as a core treasury reserve asset.
