According to Blockworks, Farcaster, the protocol behind the social network Warpcast, has gained significant attention in the crypto sphere following the launch of its Frames feature. Frames enable users to embed functionality on Farcaster applications without having to leave the app itself, a capability not achievable on popular Web2 social media platforms like Facebook. Antonio García Martínez, a former product manager at Facebook and founder of Spindl, explained that Facebook had wanted to create ways to incorporate interactive siloed media experiences on its platform but never quite achieved it.

The Frames feature is the first step in making this dream a reality. With blockchain technology incorporating aspects such as identity, money, and payment rails, developers can now use it to interact with apps outside of it and create in-context experiences. Martínez believes that on-chain transactions will become a functionality on Frames in the near future.

Martínez notes that there has yet to be a popular consumer app in Web3, and mainstream users are unlikely to use a product for its cryptocurrency features. However, creating products that enable users to interact with experiences they would not otherwise be able to access on Web2, like group listening through a music provider, is important. While Farcaster's 20,000 new users may be small in comparison to Facebook, Martínez acknowledges that it is growing rapidly.
