According to Cointelegraph: MicroStrategy’s executive chairman, Michael Saylor, disclosed that his team works behind the scenes daily to remove about 80 artificial intelligence (AI)-generated fake videos of him. These deep fake videos mainly spread Bitcoin-related scams.
Saylor sounded the alarm on X (previously Twitter), cautioning his 3.2 million followers about the significant number of deceptive videos found on YouTube. He reminded his followers, “There is no risk-free way to double your #bitcoin, and @MicroStrategy doesn’t give away $BTC to those who scan a barcode."
Often, viewers are tempted into scams where deceptive videos claim Saylor or his company would double their Bitcoin investments after scanning a barcode. The scams follow an alarming trend of similar deceitful incidents involving Elon Musk, and Solana co-founder, Anatoly Yakovenko.
A surge in deepfake videos and other AI-generated content have been observed recently. Experts warn as AI evolves, these falsified videos will increasingly become more convincing.
CertiK blockchain analyst, Jesse Leclere, noted that generative AI drives the continuous sophistication of phishing, posing major security challenges. However, law enforcement and the National Security Agency have also recognized AI's potential in aiding the detection and prevention of illegal activities.
