Modi’s government expands surveillance
Sahyog, launched in 2023, builds on India’s long-standing practice of using Section 69A of the Information Technology Act to block content on grounds such as national security or public order.
The new system, however, is based on Section 79, which allows platforms to lose legal protection if they fail to remove flagged content. Legal experts warn that courts have not yet reviewed this framework, allowing the government to bypass safeguards the Supreme Court previously required for Section 69A.

Who has joined – and who resists
At least 72 companies have registered with Sahyog, including WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, Apple, LinkedIn, and Snap.
X stands alone in refusing to participate, arguing that the portal acts as a “censorship gateway” where officials can arbitrarily remove posts without checks and balances.

Expert criticism
According to lawyer Mishi Choudhary from the Software Freedom Law Center, Sahyog marks a dangerous shift in India’s internet regulation:
“Granting such powers to police opens the door to unlimited censorship and undermines free speech.”
Her organization has also filed a constitutional petition with the Delhi High Court challenging the legality of Sahyog.

آلية الهجوم: استغلال الثقة في التطبيقات

الخطوة الأولى في الهجوم كانت إرسال رسائل تصيّد مموهة على شكل روابط تبدو وكأنها دعوات من Google Calendar. وبمجرد أن ينقر المستخدم على الرابط، يتم توجيهه إلى صفحة تفويض تطبيق يحمل اسم "Calendar". 

لكن الخدعة تكمن في أن اسم التطبيق يحتوي على أحرف خاصة مموهة (مثل أحرف سيريليّة تشبه اللاتينية)، ما يجعله يبدو مطابقًا للتطبيق الشرعي في قائمة التفويضات. 
عند منح هذا التطبيق الصلاحيات، يحصل المهاجم على: 

- القدرة على نشر التغريدات. 

- الوصول إلى الرسائل الخاصة (DMs). 

- التحكم الكامل في الإعدادات. 
وبذلك يصبح الحساب تحت سيطرة المهاجم دون الحاجة إلى كلمة المرور أو رمز 2FA.

لماذا هذا الهجوم خطير؟

1. يتجاوز كل وسائل الحماية التقليدية: حتى أقوى كلمات المرور وأحدث أنظمة المصادقة الثنائية تصبح بلا جدوى. 

2. يصعب اكتشافه: التطبيق يظهر في قائمة التفويضات بشكل طبيعي، ما يجعل المستخدم العادي لا يلاحظ الخطر. 

3. يستهدف شخصيات مؤثرة: الحسابات المخترقة غالبًا تعود لمؤثرين في مجال الكريبتو، ما يسمح للمهاجمين باستغلال ثقتهم لنشر روابط احتيالية لمتابعين بالآلاف.

كيف تحمي نفسك؟

1. مراجعة التطبيقات المفوّضة: الدخول إلى إعدادات الحساب في X وفحص قائمة التطبيقات المصرح لها بالوصول، وإزالة أي تطبيق مشبوه مثل "Calendar". 

2. الحذر من الروابط: عدم النقر على روابط مجهولة حتى لو بدت قادمة من خدمات موثوقة مثل Google. 

3. المتابعة الأمنية الدورية: جعل مراجعة الصلاحيات عادة شهرية، تمامًا مثل تغيير كلمات المرور بشكل دوري.
