One of the founders of Cardano, Charles Hoskinson has revealed ambitious plans to elevate the network to an unprecedented level of performance through the upcoming Ouroboros Leios upgrade. This revolutionary protocol enhancement, which is the culmination of eight years of research, introduces an advanced layered block structure. This architectural marvel includes input, ranking, and support blocks, potentially allowing Cardano to surpass its competitors in terms of blockchain speed.
Laboratory simulations show a promising picture, demonstrating the ability to process tens of thousands of transactions per second. This positions Cardano as a strong contender against established networks, including Solana, which currently leads with a theoretical peak of 65,000 TPS. The distinguishing feature of Leios lies in its adaptive "tick-tock" framework, which allows for conservative initial deployment followed by subsequent performance optimization.
