A UI student who killed his junior because he was in debt
Jakarta - A student from the University of Indonesia (UI) named Altafasalya Ardnika Basya, also known as AAB (23 years), admitted to killing his junior. He was driven by the huge losses he experienced investing in cryptocurrencies.
Financial difficulties due to crypto losses
According to the Deputy Head of Criminal Investigation at the Depok Metro Police, AKP Nirwan Pohan, AAB admitted to having a debt of IDR 80 million after experiencing a loss investing in crypto. AAB also admitted that he had borrowed money from friends to cover the losses.
Jealous of the victim's success in crypto investment
According to AKP Nirwan, AAB has a debt of IDR 15 million to his friend and also to an online loan platform. AAB feels jealous of victims who are able to succeed in making crypto investments and gain profits from crypto investments.
Killing victims for various reasons
AAB had befriended the victim and knew exactly that the victim had valuables such as a laptop and cell phone. AAB believes that the victim had a lot of money because he had just returned from his village.
Attempts to drain the victim's account failed
After killing the victim, AAB tried to take all the money in the victim's account via an ATM. Unfortunately, this attempt failed because AAB did not know the victim's ATM PIN, so the card was blocked.
