Sei Blockchain Upgrades to Support Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) in V2 Release
Layer 1 blockchain Sei is set to introduce support for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) in its upcoming version 2 (V2) upgrade. By incorporating Geth, an Ethereum client software, Sei V2 will allow developers to migrate Ethereum-based contracts to the network and utilize them. Sei Labs has developed a specialized interface to facilitate interaction between Sei's existing smart contracts component (based on CosmWasm technology) and the EVM component. CosmWasm is a custom Cosmos SDK module that enables smart contract operation in the Cosmos ecosystem. Sei V2 will facilitate efficient integration of EVM support into the Sei network. Additionally, the upgrade will introduce SeiDB, a data structure that aims to improve the platform's storage layer and enhance performance and scalability. Sei V2 is currently undergoing security audits and is expected to be released on a public testnet in Q1 2024, followed by mainnet deployment in H1 2024. Sei is a Cosmos SDK-based proof-of-stake blockchain designed for optimized trading.
