As early as two thousand years ago, Zhuangzi had already explained the true nature of spiritual internal consumption, and also wrote down methods to help us say goodbye to internal consumption. He is the "boat maneuvering like a god" who is as famous as the "empty boat theory".
There is such a story in Zhuangzi's "Da Sheng Pian":
Confucius' disciple Yan Yuan once crossed the river in the deep abyss, and the ferryman's boat driving skills were really amazing.
It was easy to operate, just like a god's help.
Yan Yuan then curiously asked the boatman:
Can I learn to drive a boat?
The boatman replied:
Yes,
Those who are good at swimming,
After several practices,
will soon be able to drive a boat.
And those who are good at diving,
Even if they have never seen a boat,
Once they see it,
They can quickly drive it flexibly.
Yan Yuan did not understand the true meaning of the boatman's words,
So he asked Confucius for advice.
Confucius answered like this:
The less afraid of water one is,
the faster one can learn to fake a boat,
because they are familiar with water,
and have no fear of water.
Even if they encounter danger,
they are still calm and composed,
and their hearts are not affected at all,
and are not disturbed.
It's like a gambler.
When he uses tiles as bets,
he must be relaxed,
and he is calm and self-skilled,
and he can easily win the bet.
But when the bet is changed to gold,
he becomes hesitant.
With doubts and concerns,
he can easily lose the bet.
Finally,
Zhuangzi said the conclusion through Confucius' mouth,
those who are heavy on the outside are clumsy inside,
which means that those who take external things too seriously,
must be slow in thinking,
and must be clumsy inside.
Just like what we often say now,
it's like too much drama in the heart,
not too much on external things,
and being restrained by external gains and losses.
As the saying goes:
The ending has been played out thousands of times before the words are spoken;
The body has not moved, but the mind has already gone through thousands of mountains;
The action has not been completed, and the imagined disaster worries cannot be unfolded;
The thing has been done, but the past is still playing out in the mind.
Zhuangzi's storytelling is always simple and profound.
He uses this story to tell us that
If you have too many desires, your mind will be scattered.
If you can't concentrate, you can't focus.
If you can't focus, you will easily fail.
Looking at the external objects themselves,
is a kind of clear distinction between things and things,
This means that the person has not been fully immersed in the matter, has not been able to enter, has not been able to use his mind, and has been in a state of concentration.
The boatman is skilled in driving the boat because he is not afraid of falling into the water. It is because he is relaxed that he can drive the boat like a god!
Therefore, only when people put down their mental burdens, are not confused or disturbed by external things, and focus on the results of things and the process of things.
Change the mind from losing to a normal mind.
Only in this way can we avoid failure caused by inner clumsiness.
