A survey by Zackxbt found that the presale trend, in which individuals request funds on social media and promote the launch of their memecoins, has grown in popularity.
Nearly $150 million was raised on Solana after Book of Meme (BOME), the token that started this trend, was launched earlier this month.
Zackxbt caught the attention of several X users who failed to deliver on their promises to launch the announced tokens and instead stole thousands of dollars worth of SOL from trusting users
Due to the size and scope of the phenomenon, it is still unclear how many of these pre-sales turned out to be fraud. Zackxbt reports that of the projects it was able to track, more than 28,000 SOL were stolen from users who participated in these “pre-sales.”
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana Labs, advised against getting involved in these memecoin schemes and asked the Solana community to stop this craze.
