Altcoin season usually refers to a period in the cryptocurrency market when alternative coins (not Bitcoin) begin to rise in price and overall capitalization during a bullish trend.
Historically, Bitcoin has often started higher, leading a rally, and then entered a consolidation phase, which supported the growth of other cryptocurrencies. This sets the stage for altcoins to improve their performance relative to the market leader (Bitcoin).
It is mentioned that after a profitable year for Bitcoin investors, a move to an alternative season in 2023 is possible. Bitcoin's share of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization has also increased to more than 52% since November 2022.
Analogies with previous cycles indicate a possible exit of altcoins from the “Gaussian channel”, which is expected to repeat the pattern typical for the three-year period. The same pattern was seen in 2016, which marked the beginning of the first significant altcoin season in history.
