Have you heard about the latest scheme involving Bitcoin wallets?
Scammers are leaving apparent Bitcoin wallets with QR codes on public streets.
When you scan the QR code, you are directed to a website where you are asked to disclose private information.
Here's how the scam works:
- The QR code leads to a website.
- You are asked to enter a "Private Key" and a PIN (to be revealed on the wallet).
- You provide your phone number and email address.
- An "activation fee" is demanded to receive the bitcoins.
🔍 Caution!
This is a form of phishing to steal personal (financial) data and cause financial harm.
🛡️ How to protect yourself:
- Ignore such demands or promises.
- Money doesn't lie on the street!
- If you become a victim, report it to the police.
- If you find such a wallet, also report it to the police.
- Be cautious with links and attachments as they may contain malware.
- Watch out for spelling and grammar mistakes in messages.
Remember: Apparent valid phone numbers, email addresses, or logos do not automatically mean authenticity.
