Although dYmension’s protocol is inspired by the Cosmos ecosystem and employs some similar technologies, it also introduces many of its own unique features and design.
First of all, dYmension adopts a modular blockchain architecture design to decouple different functions to improve performance, efficiency and scalability [2]. Each application is its own execution environment, and the center of dYmension is the settlement layer, which is different from the design of Cosmos.
Additionally, dYmension introduces a multi-layered blockchain protocol that provides powerful tools for building and deploying permissionless application-specific RollApps. This makes dYmension the hub and factory for these applications. This design is not exactly the same goal as Cosmos. Although both are committed to achieving interoperability between different blockchains, dYmension focuses more on application expansion and deployment [5].
Another difference is dYmension's emphasis on data availability. dYmension's protocol is designed with a common interface for integrating different data availability providers to ensure that data is available and cannot be tampered after issuing a checkpoint. This design feature makes state consistency between RollApp nodes more reliable, and also provides greater flexibility in selecting data availability providers when deploying RollApp [4].
To sum up, although dYmension is technically inspired by Cosmos, it has innovated and optimized in terms of modular design, multi-layer blockchain protocol and data availability. Therefore, dYmension does not simply copy Cosmos’ technology, but develops its own unique features and advantages based on it.
