Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade Goes Live This December – Doubling Blob Capacity
Ethereum engineers expect Fusaka, its next significant update, by year's end.
In Thursday's All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) call #165, developers decided to launch Fusaka on Ethereum's mainnet on December 3 if testnet upgrades go well.
The update will deploy on Holesky, Sepolia, and Hoodi testnets on October 1, 14, and 28 before the mainnet launch.
Fusaka, including 12 Ethereum Improvement Proposals, is Ethereum's next significant protocol update. Improvements include data verification, storage optimization, block gas limit increase, and smart contract execution.
After Fusaka launches, developers want to improve the network's blob capacity. "Blob capacity should more than double over the two weeks following Fusaka's activation," said crypto researcher Christine Kim on Thursday X.
Layer 2 chains may scale better and save money using blobs, transient data packets from rollups saved in Ethereum blocks.
Kim said the objective and maximum blobs per block would grow from 6/9 to 10/15 in the first week following Fusaka and then to 14/21.
Fusaka follows Ethereum's May mainnet update, Pectra, which improved user experience, staking efficiency, and blob growth.
Due to testnet upgrading issues, Fusaka developers may not reach all deadlines.
"The odds of the testnet upgrades going smoothly are 50/50, as there are still several bugs under investigation and fixes pending in Ethereum clients," Kim said.
After investors' asset unstaking wait times reached 43 days, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin defended the network's validator queue architecture.
The previous 24 hours saw $89.8 million in Ethereum futures liquidations, $83.5 million long and $6.3 million short.
After being rejected at $4,620 on Thursday, $ETH is retesting the 20-day SMA. If the top cryptocurrency breaks the 20-day SMA, it may find support at $4,300 at the 50-day SMA.
A daily candlestick close below $4,200 would undermine the thesis and may drive ETH beneath $4,000 psychological support.
