#PowellWatch #WashingtonTalks Zelenskyy Meets Trump in Washington for Peace Talks
🇺🇦 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington with top European leaders to push for peace in Russia’s war on Ukraine.
🤝 On Monday, Zelenskyy met U.S. President Donald Trump—first privately, then with European leaders including Ursula von der Leyen, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, Alexander Stubb, and NATO’s Mark Rutte.
🌍 The group had gathered earlier at the Ukrainian embassy to prepare a joint plan.
🗣️ Trump promised “strong protection” for Ukraine and said he may call Vladimir Putin after the talks. He also suggested a possible three-way summit.
💬 Zelenskyy welcomed Trump’s efforts but stressed that Ukraine needs lasting security. Macron proposed a four-party deal to give the EU more power in enforcing peace.
⚠️ The talks came just after Russian airstrikes killed 14 civilians in Ukraine. This added urgency to the discussions.
📅 No deal was reached, but Trump called the talks “excellent progress.” European leaders will hold a video call on Tuesday to decide the next steps.
