Bitlayer, an intelligent solution for layer 2 contracts, is one of the latest notable efforts to bring DApp functionality to the largest blockchain in the world. At the core of the platform is the BitVM processing mechanism, which we will take a moment to familiarize ourselves with before diving into the features of the Bitlayer project itself.
BitVM was proposed and presented by Bitcoin developer Robin Linus at the end of 2023. It is an additional processing mechanism for Bitcoin, capable of supporting full computations and programming languages. Fully executable programming languages can handle computations of any degree of complexity, provided that the computational task can theoretically be performed. In a practical sense, strict completeness allows for the development of complex programming logic to support intricate DApps.
