Bitlayer is an advanced Layer-2 solution for the Bitcoin ecosystem, combining Bitcoin’s top-tier security with scalability and enhanced programmability to support smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps).
Built on BitVM, an innovative virtual machine that enables Turing-complete contract execution on Bitcoin while preserving its native security, Bitlayer integrates a Rollup model (similar to Optimistic Rollup) with fraud proofs and zero-knowledge proofs to ensure high speed and safety. It offers EVM compatibility, allowing Ethereum developers to deploy dApps easily using Solidity, MetaMask, and familiar tools. A trustless bridge enables secure BTC transfers between Bitcoin and Bitlayer without intermediaries. According to its roadmap, the project launched Mainnet V1 in early 2024 and is moving toward Rollup V2 for even greater performance.
