The trade issue will be resolved by the end of October
This was revealed by Finance Minister Besent in an interview with Nikkei News. For him, President Trump's tariff policy aims to bring manufacturing back to the U.S., so retaliatory tariffs may decrease if the trade deficit improves.
Bessent likened it to, over time, tariffs should resemble a "melting iceberg". If manufacturing returns to the U.S., imports will decrease, thus helping to rebalance trade. This metaphor also implies the possibility that tariff levels may be lowered or even eliminated in the future.
Regarding the negotiation process with countries that have not reached a trade agreement, Bessent stated that it is expected to be fundamentally completed by the end of October.
