How institutional investors differ from retail ones. Why do some accumulate Ethereum while others shy away from it?
The rise in Ethereum quotes in recent months indicates growing institutional demand in the absence of interest from retail traders. As reasons, experts surveyed by Decrypt pointed to a lack of capital, unequal access to information, and the difference in strategy between the two groups of investors.
From the local minimum recorded on Sunday, August 3, during the overall correction in the crypto market, Ethereum (ETH) has risen by more than 8%, reaching $3,630 by August 6 at 14:40 MSK. According to Binance, ETH is slightly below its annual maximum of $3,940, achieved on July 28.
However, ETH quotes are still significantly lower than the absolute maximum of around $4,900, recorded in November 2021, while in 2025 many major cryptocurrencies have updated their maximum values multiple times. The growth since the beginning of the year for ETH lags behind many major cryptocurrencies — quotes have risen by 9%, while Bitcoin has increased by 22%, XRP by 43%, TRX by 31%, and HYPE by 58%.
