That was my first time entering Web3.
A friend told me: 'This project can get airdrops, just click to connect the wallet.'
I didn't even look, I just clicked.
And then?
The wallet showed 'Authorization Successful', and 5 minutes later, 50U of my assets were transferred out.
Only now do I realize the biggest pitfall in Web3 is not 'investment failure',
But rather: you have no idea who you are 'connecting' with.
At first, I thought 'connecting the wallet' meant logging into an account.
It was only later that I understood:
Connecting your wallet ≠ safety.
Connecting your wallet ≠ authorizing login.
Connecting your wallet ≠ you actively controlling your assets.
In Web3, connecting your wallet means you are handing over your identity key.
If you are not sure who the other party is, you are essentially giving away your wallet's lock password.
It wasn't until I used WalletConnect that I knew what 'real connection' meant.
💡 The first time I connected to an airdrop platform via WalletConnect scan, I noticed something different:
• It will redirect you to the wallet app with a clear notification of who is initiating the connection request.
• Each operation requires my authorization, and the permission list is clear at a glance.
• The Dapp is securely authenticated, and once connected, my permissions won't be bound long-term.
• When there are new operations, the wallet pushes notifications to remind me, fully under my control.
This is what I understand about Web3 — power returns to the user.
The existence of WCT is a reward for 'correct connection behavior'.
Did you know?
WalletConnect launched its own token WCT,
It is not just casual distribution; it is through each of your [real, effective, and safe] connection actions that airdrop rewards are given.
This is not a candy distribution for 'shearing leeks',
This is one of the behaviors that should be encouraged in the Web3 world.
Summary: The wallet you connect determines whether you are the 'master' or 'prey' in Web3.
For beginners entering the space, don't just 'click to connect' anymore!
Please remember these few sentences:
• The wallet is your Web3 key.
• WalletConnect is your smart lock.
• WCT is a reward for 'people using it safely'.
🗝️ Don't be fooled anymore, brother. Before connecting your wallet, check if you are using WalletConnect.
