Japanese researchers have successfully tested solar panels installed above rice fields, proving it's possible to generate clean energy without sacrificing crop yields. In a pilot project, dual-axis sun-tracking panels produced nearly 44,000 kWh/year, while the rice fields still achieved up to 85% of normal yields with top-quality grain.

This agrivoltaic system offers a sustainable solution for Japan’s land and energy challenges, allowing solar power and farming to coexist. Future improvements using AI and semi-transparent panels could further boost efficiency, helping Japan meet its 2030 solar energy goals while supporting farmers.
