Australia has launched the Waratah Super Battery, now the world’s most powerful battery by output. Operated by Akaysha Energy, it currently delivers 350 MW, with plans to reach 850 MW and power up to 1 million homes for one hour. Located in New South Wales, it supports the System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS) to stabilize the grid as coal plants shut down by 2035. Built on a former coal site, it helps manage Australia’s high rooftop solar output. Despite challenges, the project marks a major step in the country’s clean energy transition.
