Trump once again found himself in an awkward situation: his boastful claim that India allegedly stopped purchasing oil from Russia under pressure from Washington was immediately refuted by the Indians themselves. According to official media in New Delhi, there have been no changes in trade with Moscow — on the contrary, India is actively increasing its import of Russian hydrocarbons. Thus, yet another attempt by Trump to present wishes as facts ended in public embarrassment.
Trump's loud statement was broadcast on American television — he confidently claimed that India 'no longer buys oil from Russia.' However, Indian sources, including the business newspaper Mint and the ANI agency, categorically denied this information. According to them, New Delhi continues active negotiations for new contracts with Moscow aimed at increasing energy supply. Moreover, the Indian government, as journalists emphasize, has not given any orders to its oil refining companies to stop purchases from Russia.
