In the thirteenth year of Jian'an during the Eastern Han Dynasty (208 AD), Cao Cao led a large army southward, forcing Liu Bei to abandon Xinye and retreat with the people and a small army to the strategic location of Jiangling.
At Changban Slope in Changyang, Liu Bei's army suffered a great defeat, with troops and civilians scattering in a state of extreme chaos.
In the midst of the chaos, Zhao Yun (courtesy name Zilong), responsible for protecting Liu Bei's family, became separated from Lady Gan, Lady Mi, and Lady Mi who was holding the infant A Dou.
Zhao Yun **resolutely** turned his horse around and charged back into the battlefield, heavily surrounded by Cao's army, determined to find and rescue the young lord A Dou.
1. He successively rescued strategist Jian Yong and general Mi Zhu.
2. He then found the injured Lady Mi. To avoid dragging Zhao Yun and A Dou down, Lady Mi resolutely committed suicide by jumping into a well after entrusting A Dou to Zhao Yun.
3. Zhao Yun cradled A Dou, tightly wrapping the infant in his battle robe against his chest, then fought hard to break through.
4. When he reached a relatively safe place, he was already drenched in blood and exhausted, but A Dou in his arms was safe and sound, even still fast asleep.
5. When Zhao Yun returned the unharmed A Dou to Liu Bei, **Liu Bei made an unexpected move—he threw A Dou to the ground, saying: "For this child, you nearly lost me a great general!"
