In May 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a Florida software engineer and early Bitcoin miner, offered 10,000 BTC on a BitcoinTalk forum in exchange for two pizzas. At the time, that BTC was only worth about $40 USD
A user named Jeremy “Jercos” Sturdivant accepted the offer: he paid for the pizzas with fiat and had them delivered to Laszlo. Laszlo then transferred the 10,000 BTC to him

Although Laszlo’s expenditure is now worth hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin's current value, he has said he regrets nothing — he aimed to prove Bitcoin could be used for everyday purchase
This event is now celebrated annually as Bitcoin Pizza Day on May 22nd
