#BitcoinHalving

Bitcoin halving is a pre-programmed event that cuts the reward for mining new Bitcoin blocks in half. It occurs roughly every four years (or every 210,000 blocks).

**Why?** To control Bitcoin's supply, mimicking scarce resources like gold. Only 21 million Bitcoin will ever exist.

**What happens?**

1. **Miners earn 50% less Bitcoin** for verifying transactions and securing the network.

2. **New Bitcoin creation slows down**, reducing the inflation rate.

**Effect:** By limiting the new supply entering the market while demand often stays steady or grows, halvings have historically been associated with significant price increases. The recent halving was around April 2024.
