🇩🇿 Algeria bans crypto: jail time and $7K fines incoming
While the world talks mass adoption and MicroStrategy adding another 21,021 $BTC to its stash, Algeria is going the opposite way. The newly published Law No. 25-10 criminalizes nearly all crypto-related activities 🙉
👮♂️ Wanna be labelled a crypto criminal in Algeria? Just do one of these:
- trade, hold or just talk about digital assets online;
- run an exchange or wallet;
- mine or distribute coins (even in your garage).
⭐ What's the price for going on-chain?
- up to 1 year behind bars;
- fines between 200,000 - 1,000,000 DZD ($1,500 - $7,000);
- or both, if you are especially enthusiastic 😏
Now officially classified as "property, income, funds or financial assets", crypto has also become directly associated with financial crimes like money laundering and capital flight in Algeria. Sadly, a crypto-friendly vacation there doesn't seem likely anytime soon...
